Prevention against Coronavirus

As coronavirus is spreading at a fast pace across the countries, most of the countrymen are in fear. There is nothing to fear and panic about any virus instead you should take relevant preventive measures. Currently, no vaccine has been discovered that can prevent the infection. So, you can’t rely on any medicine to cure the disease once you get it. The best way to overcome this is to prevent exposure to this virus. You must follow the guidelines that are issued by various health organizations from time to time. If you dedicatedly follow the preventive actions every day then the spread of this deadly respiratory virus can be stopped.

Corona Virus

Here are some of the common guidelines:

  • You must avoid close contact with people who got the infection of the virus. If you get in touch with such persons then the possibility of getting infected rises tremendously. Once you come to know that a person is infected it’s better and wise to stay away from them.
  • When you are in public places like airports or railway stations or malls then you should always avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. If you need to touch then always make sure to wash it properly then only touch it.
  • The moment you are sick, you should stay at home as during any sort of sickness your immune system is not that strong to fight against any viruses and you are more prone to get infected. So, it is advisable that if you are sick stay at home and take enough rest.
  • During your cough or sneeze, you should cover your face with a tissue. You should never use a single tissue again and again. Once you use the tissue you should throw it in the trash.
  • You should always clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe so that it is free from all sorts of germs.

What are the recommendations regarding the facemask?

CDC does not recommend that people wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory viruses, including 2019-nCoV because those who are well don’t need it. Instead, those you have the symptoms of 2019 novel coronavirus must wear it so that they can protect others from the risk of getting infected. The use of facemasks is completely necessary for health workers who are working to treat patients who are already infected. Along with the people who are taking care of someone in close settings whether at home or in a health care facility must wear the face mask.

Washing the hands, again and again, is highly recommended. It is better if you wash your hands using soap and water that too for at least 20 seconds especially after you go to the bathroom, after coughing, sneezing and before eating. In case you find that soap and water are not readily available, you should make use of an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Though you should always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty. Including these everyday habits in our day to day life will prevent the spread of coronavirus to large extent.

How Coronavirus infection is spread?

Wuhan coronavirus was first recognized in the Chinese city of Wuhan in the year 2019. The number of infected people is still rising and along with that number of people dying is also at a rise. Coronaviruses have caused devastating epidemics, some of them caused mild to moderate respiratory infections. Inside a coronavirus’s pronged there is a round core that has proteins and a “greasy” membrane. In the core genetic material is present that the virus can inject into vulnerable cells to infect them easily. The spike proteins extend from the core to the viral surface which further allows the virus to engages its receptor. This results in the merger of the virus with the cell. Here are some of the possible ways by which coronavirus spreads from one body to another:

  • In certain cases, the virus uses animals as their primary hosts and have evolved to infect humans. There is a huge number of evidence which suggests that the novel coronavirus also jumped from bats to humans after passing through an intermediate carrier between them.
  • A huge number of human-borne coronaviruses have evolved over time to spread amongst the population as much as they can rather than pathogenicity. Hence, you can find that the coronaviruses that are transferred from animals seem to cause more-severe diseases in humans.
  • In some cases, the virus might get transmitted in humans through respiratory droplets that infected people leave when they breathe, cough or sneeze. A typical surgical mask is not enough to prevent the viruses present in these droplets. Though you can spread the infection from spreading by following some simple measures like washing your hands, disinfecting frequently touched surfaces and objects, and avoiding touching your face, eyes, and mouth.

To date, there is no specific antiviral treatment recommended for coronavirus infection. People infected with this virus should receive supportive care for relieving the symptoms. In case there are severe symptoms, then the treatment should include care to support vital organ functions. If you are one who thinks that you have been exposed to the infection then you should contact your healthcare provider immediately. There are currently no vaccines to cure or protect you against coronavirus infection. All you can do is reduce your risk of infection by doing the following the guidelines provided. As soon as you have cold-like symptoms, you can help protect others by staying at home while you are sick, then avoid close contact with others and along with that, you must cover your mouth and nose with a tissue then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands. In the situation when you have a fever you should take pain and fever medications. Apart from all, you can use a room humidifier or take a hot shower to help ease a sore throat and cough.
