Why Cloud Computing is important today?

What is cloud computing?

Cloud computing, often used to describe the data centers available to the users over the internet. It is the availability of computing services over the internet that includes servers, databases, storage, software, networking, intelligence, and analytics for more quick innovation, economies of scale, and flexible resources. Cloud computing can be defined into five characteristics according to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) that are internet access, measured service, on-demand self-service, shared resource pooling, and rapid elasticity. And, there are two types of cloud computing in Switzerland, a reliable provider could provide, first, the deployment model that includes public cloud, private cloud, hybrid cloud, and multi-cloud, and second is the service category that includes SaaS, PaaS, IaaS.

Types of cloud computing

A reliable cloud provider in Switzerland would provide cloud computing services of two types that are deployment model, and service category.

The deployment model includes four types of cloud categories public cloud, private cloud, hybrid cloud, and multi-cloud where the public cloud means that by using an internet connection, the resources are hosted on data centers that are managed by a third-party cloud service provider and not owning these resources. The private cloud environment gives complete control over managing the data and security for the resources whereas the hybrid cloud is a combination of both the public and private cloud, it is flexible with its capabilities, and security compliance, etc. The multi-cloud approach is a particular case of a hybrid cloud where an organization uses services from multiple public clouds providers.

The service model is of three types are SaaS (Software as a Service), PaaS (Platform as a Service), IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service). SaaS is the software application that is most widely used by software companies these days as with SaaS, the company’s software application is managed by a third-party provider and is hosted on a remote server. PaaS is for those businesses that do not wish to make major financial investments and create unique applications. And, with IaaS, an organization does not need to purchase or maintain its infrastructure rather it rents servers and data storage in the cloud meaning that it migrates its hardware to the cloud.

Why cloud computing is important today?

Cloud computing is important due to various reasons even today, which makes it a priority for various businesses. The main reason for choosing cloud computing is its storage, backup, and data recovery. Let’s look at some more reasons for the importance of cloud computing, these are:

  • Cost-effective: Cloud computing is cost effective as it is a model based on a subscription where you pay for what you use. It can be stopped anytime very easily by simply not paying the subscription amount when you do not want the services anymore.
  • Disaster data recovery: For a business, losing the data could be a disaster and if the data is stored without proper backup then they might lose the data and will have to face a major downtime to restore the data or might lose some data. A cloud computing service the provider keeps the data stored at multiple servers hence when an individual loses their data then the data can be restored or recovered easily.
  • More flexible: Cloud computing is more flexible as it can be accessed from anywhere with the help of an internet connection. The upgrade also becomes more flexible as if you need extra storage or extra bandwidth then you do not need to be worried, the cloud provider will instantly provide them easily.
  • Automatic software updates: The business always needs to be up-to-date with all the latest features and if an IT company is managing everything itself, it will take a lot of time and the business will remain pending. The cloud computing provider makes sure of always providing the latest and upgraded version for you and them handle all kinds of new software updates themselves.
  • Increased security: One of the very major concerns of business owners is data security. Many believe that their data is not secured but the cloud computing provider makes sure of securing the data to be accessed by unauthorized users.
  • Scalability: Cloud computing provides a better scalability option as per the business needs and requirements. If the business suddenly wants to increase its bandwidth or decrease its bandwidth as per the business requirement, it can be done by the cloud computing provider quickly.
  • Competitiveness: Since already a lot of businesses are using cloud computing services if some company goes to the traditional documentation method then they may lack behind their competitors. Hence, cloud computing also provides a competitive edge other competitors.
  • Increased collaboration efficiency: Cloud computing also enables the business to collaboration opportunities among the employees themselves by sharing the resources of work, data, and files to multiple users at the same time in a secure manner.

Accessibility: Cloud computing helps to access data from anywhere in the world, just with a device having an internet connection. It is also beneficial for the companies as employees can work remotely if the company is connected with a cloud interface.
